Wait. Say that again? Somebody has created a mobile JRPG where you don’t need microtransactions to progress? And it’s made by Chrono Trigger’s writer? Well color me pink and call me spiffy.
Another Eden: The Cat Beyond Time and Space seems to be breaking the mould of JRPG’s where micro-transactions are necessary to progress through the game.
It’s written and directed by Masato Kato who was the man behind Chrono Trigger’s story. To add icing onto the cake, the music will be by Yasunori Mitsuda who composed the songs behind Xenogears and Chrono Cross.
It’s turn-based combat system set in a world that you navigate through filled with dungeons, shops and NPCs in which you probably guessed correctly. In other words your typical RPG fare.
Now I’m not saying that their aren’t any IAP though. You can purchase new fighters through Chronos Stones which you can either earn or pay for. And they are acquired in a Gacha-style system.
But the point here is that they’re not necessary and it’s not a make a break situation. We’ll just have to see how long it lasts
